Thoughts in transit #6
There was an article I was reading the other day about the use of the typewriter changing the way writers wrote in the earlier years. It was the change of tech and how it made writing feel almost telegraph like, which made me think about how we write now. Maybe because I communicate mostly on Whatsapp, or mobile based messaging, my sentences seem to stretch incredibly long. I don’t dislike it, but just that I don’t craft sentences as well as I used to.
Everything seems very immediate and needing me to address the points as quickly as possible. Then at the same time my words need some explanation so I end up having to make a few sentences to explain just one.
Can we go back to times when we said things slowly, with emphasis, and giving time for people to listen and hear? Working the same way back, do we take time to hear someone out, or do we just want to make our point to them?
