maria milojković I love this. And I think I’d seen that piece on the way other cultures let children read…differently. Maybe the US is one of the worst in terms of giving children’s stories a ‘happy ending.’ I was listening to my husband read the kids a children’s story in French yesterday and I actually was laughing at the way it brought up different topics from childhood…including sexuality…in a way that would be taboo in some cultures. I’ve also seen this author tackle stories where the parents, say, can’t find work, or stories where people are just very sad.
