The price of monetizing schemes

As the saying goes, if the product is free, you are the product (being sold).

While this idea isn’t new, and maybe people get tired of hearing it, we still use free products with abandon and seem to be shocked when we are sold to advertisers.

So I don’t think we can remind ourselves of this enough. And as Medium is contemplating how to generate revenue, keep the cost of monetization of us in mind.
