Building on the response from Spokal, we’re living in a time when everyone expects an immediate response to emails, but ask yourself when was the last time that an email really (really) needed to be answered right then. When I need to focus on writing or reading I either a) shut down email entirely or b) just shut off notifications on the device I’m reading or writing. The other simple step to take is to disable most audible notifications on your devices. My iPhone only makes an audible notification for phone calls, voice mails, texts, and IMs for work. That’s it. Everything else I’ll get to when I feel like it.
