you shouldn’t be disappointed. science fiction is like any literature. it contains the social investments that cannot be ascribed a value, nor can they be programmed or identified by machines (yet).

additionally, stories are what people from different intellectual backgrounds use to understand one another. considering the (constant) gradual generational handover taking place at the moment, the weird thread of 1970s dystopic science fiction that you detected makes perfect sense. it was written in the time where the post war social contracts based on equality were failing & we collectively realised our detrimental effect on the planet.
