Alternate Gothic No.2 By Morris Fuller Benton. I’ve drawn this typeface three times now. The typeface I’ve drawn the most? Didot HFJ

My Daily Typeface Habit

I have a daily habit of drawing fonts. Some days I draw them quickly, sloppily; some days I attend to their every curve and ink trap. Both these approaches have their advantages. You can work with a typeface every day on the computer and not truly be attuned to their typographic quirk and detail. But if you draw it, oh, then the little things jump out. It’s like I download the typeface to my brain — it becomes accessible to me when I’m away from the computer and just sketching. They can morph and become improvisations of mostly remembered tunes.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
