Musings of three bootcamp graduates
Tritechta is a group of three friends that are committed to continuing our coding journey together. As friends and business partners, we are accountable to each other; we know this to be a key driver in our success. Over the two years since graduating, Dev Bootcamp, we’ve laughed, cried, and triumphed together… a lot. Our hope is that, as we undertake our next big project (HUUUUGE), we can chronicle our journey and provide some insight to other travelers on this most epic adventure called life.
Stephanie Reaves — Thinker, Tinkerer, and Calculated Risk Taker navigating life while optimizing regrets.
If I were to break down my personality traits using the dream team framework, I would say I am 50% hustler, 30% hacker, and 20% hipster. I know you’re thinking, can one person really fall into all categories; like how does a person that is a collage of multiple personalities exist? Yes, the human unicorn is prancing around blending in with everyday folks… Just call me Mystique. Now, how does one survive and thrive as a chameleon? Glad you asked: 1) curiosity is a must 2) work ethic is how you stay in the game and 3) use backward induction. The cool thing about being a little bit of everything is that I see a little bit of myself in everyone. Hopefully, you be able to identify with some of my thoughts, rants, and random tangents.
What you can expect from me in our next post: How curiosity unfeathered can be your bane, how with so many interests and nascent abilities you have to be able to clearly demonstrate your success, and how to use backward induction to reach your desired goals and outcomes. Oh, and I’ll be using examples plucked, from my experiences as a, Structured Product Analyst on Wall St, MBA Student at The Wharton School, fledgling programmer at Dev Bootcamp, R&D Manager, Software Engineer at a wearable tech startup, and loving friend and family member.
Michael Angelo — Creator, Developer, Gamer, Musician, and all around good guy!
Life really takes you down a million paths, I have been a Lifeguard, Waiter, Restaurant Manager, Opera Singer, Recording Artist, and now a Programmer. Piggybacking off of Stephanie I would say that I am 40% hipster, 35% hacker, and 25% hustler. My background as an Opera Singer has given me great insight into the creative part of my being, I feel truly happy when I am being creative. You might ask “How can you switch from singing opera to being a Programmer?”. For me, it’s actually very similar; I have gone from standing on a stage with the goal to entertain 3000 people, to sitting behind a computer with the goal to entertain millions. Combining my inner Hipster that appreciates all things beautiful and functional, with my skills to actually create that game, app, experience, etc. is what I live for.
I am always in a constant state of growth and believe that the moment you stop failing is the moment you stop learning. Fail fast and hard and grow from that; repeat this cycle over and over. It’s a gamer’s mentality. Think about it, Mario hits a goomba and dies, you’ve learned goombas kill Mario… don’t run into goombas. Now you can make it that much farther in the level (life). I will be pulling from all of my experience as a creative, gaming, programming, nerd, and tying my real life experience into articles, that teach you how to gamify your life. Over time we can level up together!
Xiran Ou — Translator, whisperer, engineer.
2 years ago I undertook a bizarre, yet excellent adventure at Dev Bootcamp. During this life changing experience, I had gathered up the skills and tools that had turned me from a translator into a software engineer. I had met people that would become my lifelong friends. I had taken a journey within myself and found my lost passion.
Geared up with my skills, passion and teamed up with my friends, I’m ready to venture into the mysterious rainbow-colored land where those loveable beasts called video games live and find the secret formulas that make them so addictively good.
In here, you will find my praise and rants on the good, bad, and ugly in my quest to unearth the veil in the strange world of coding and gaming.
Oh, because it seems necessary given my teammates response… I am 80% hacker, 10% hipster, and 10% hustler.
