Well… I normally do too, but I think in the context of Silicon Valley it’s pretty hard to claim that Asian-Americans (for whatever value of that term) are underrepresented in sheer numbers or in cultural mindshare. Based on that I didn’t want to make any claims about bias that let Asians off the hook.

I think on most campuses here as an Asian man you aren’t going to really be asking yourself if you fit in culturally. Also I think young Asian-American men by now are pretty comfortable with the idea that they can excel and even assert themselves in technical fields. Asian women… definitely doing better, but still a ways to go in my experience.
