Stocks can soar and plunge on a daily basis, but over time, the companies that are consistent with their bottom line, products & steadily grow their operations tend to perform quite well.
The 10 best-performing stocks in the S&P 500 index this year are listed below. We arranged from the highest gainers down to the ones with moderate gains. We also put a short bio on all the listed companies below.
1) Coty Inc. (COTY)
Year-to-date return: 99.39%
Coty, Inc. manufactures and markets beauty products, fragrances, color cosmetics and skin care products. The company operates through four segments: Fragrances, Color Cosmetics, Skin & Body Care, and Brazil Acquisition. The Fragrances segment provides a variety of men’s and women’s products. The brands in the Fragrances segment provides brands associated with fashion designers, Lifestyle brands and brands associated with entertainment personalities. The Color Cosmetics segment provides lip, eye, nail and facial color products. The Skin & Body Care brands include adidas, Lancaster, philosophy and TJoy. The Brazil Acquisition segment deals with personal care and beauty business, which includes skin care, nail care, deodorants, and hair care products. Coty was founded by Francois Coty in 1904 and is headquartered in New York, NY.
2) Xerox Corporation (XRX)

Xerox Holdings Corporation operates as a holding company. The Company, through its subsidiaries provides printers, scanners, supplies, and accessories. Xerox Holdings serves health care, insurance, government and retail sectors worldwide.
3) Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG)
Year-to-date return: 68.33%
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. is one of the leading fast-casual Mexican restaurant chains, with approximately 400 outlets in about 20 states, mainly in the West and Midwest. Known for its fresh, gourmet, and increasingly organic ingredients, Chipotle (pronounced chi-POAT-lay) offers a fairly simple menu of burritos, fajitas, and tacos featuring pork, shredded beef, chicken, steak, and vegetarian fillings. Customer checks average about $8.50. Founded by Steve Ells on July 13, 1993, Chipotle had 16 restaurants (all in Colorado) when McDonald’s Corporation became a major investor in 1998. By the time McDonald’s fully divested itself from Chipotle in 2006, the chain had grown to over 500 locations.
With more than 2,000 locations, Chipotle had a net income of US $475.6 million and a staff of more than 45,000 employees in 2015. Annual revenues per unit are an estimated $1.2 million.
4) Cadence Design Systems (CDNS)

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. provides software technology, design and consulting services and technology. The Company licenses its electronic design automation software technology and provides a variety of professional services. Cadence’s design realization solutions are used to design and develop complex chips and electronic systems, including semiconductors.
5) Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (APC)
Year-to-date return: 60.38%
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation is one of the world’s biggest independent exploration and production companies that primarily sells oil, natural gas, and NGLs. The company has proved reserves of about 1.5 billion BOE and owns 2,500 net oil wells and 6,500 net gas wells. Its conventional oil assets are mainly in the US Gulf of Mexico, but also in Algeria and Ghana. The unconventional portfolio comprises the Delaware (Texas/New Mexico) and DJ (Colorado) basins in the US. Midstream activities include gathering, processing, and transportation of company-produced and third-party energy products. In 2019, Occidental Petroleum acquired Anadarko for $38 billion, outbidding Chevron.
6) Total System Services (TSS)

Total System Services, Inc. provides electronic payment processing and related services to financial and non-financial institutions. The Company’s services include processing consumer, retail, commercial, government services, stored value, and debit cards. Total System serves institutions throughout the United States and internationally.
7) Dentsply Sirona Inc. (XRAY)

Dentsply Sirona Inc. manufactures and distributes dental supplies on a worldwide basis. The Company’s products include dental prosthetics, endodontic instruments, dental sealants, ultrasonic scalers, dental x-ray equipment, and intraoral cameras. Dentsply also provides impression materials, orthodontic appliances, and dental operatory software systems and other dental products.
8) Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
Year-to-date return: 57.64%
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. manufactures semiconductor products. The Company manufactures products that include microprocessors, embedded microprocessors, chipsets, graphics, video and multimedia products. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. offers its products on a global basis.
9) MSCI (MSCI)
Year-to-date return: 57.63%
The MSCI Emerging Markets Index stands for Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), and is an index used to measure equity market performance in global emerging markets. It is just one index created by MSCI, which has been constructing and maintaining them since the late 1960s. MSCI Inc. offers products and services to support the needs of institutional investors throughout their investment processes. Its segments include Index, Analytics and All Other segment. All Other segment comprises environmental, social and governance (ESG) and Real Estate segments.
10) DISH Network Corporation (DISH)
Year-to-date return: 56.19%
DISH Network Corp. is a holding company, which engages in the provision of pay-tv services. It operates through Pay-TV and Wireless segments. The Pay-TV segment is offered under the DISH brand and Sling brand. The Wireless segment refers to the wireless spectrum licenses and related assets. The company was founded by Charles W. Ergen, Cantey W. Ergen and James DeFranco in 1980 and is headquartered in Englewood, CO.
