Cardinal qualities of Benzoin Essential oil
Origin
Benzoin is obtained from the bark of a variety of trees of the genus Styrax. Its resin is commonly used in incense and perfume industry because of its fixative properties and sweet vanilla-like aroma. The resin is initially almost yellow, but it turns brownish-red on thickening and hardening. It has a strong smell which seems similar to vanilla. It tastes almost acrid. The resin is cleaned, and powdered, and the compound form of benzoin tincture is used as essential oil. It can also be used via vapour therapy where it is helpful in soothing itchiness and relieving the redness on the face.

Essential oil extracted from the resin has a variety of health benefits which can be attributed to its properties as

It uplifts the mood and raises the spirit, because of which it is widely used on religious occasions in many cultures around the world. The components of the oil enter the nostrils where our smell receptors detect them and their effects on our brain stimulate our nervous center.
