The Last Flight of The Bumblebee

It was a glorious last flight of the bumblebee as the Steelers downed the Jets this afternoon while wearing their alternate jerseys for the final time. Divisive as they were, I’ll miss these uniforms. They added a bit of whimsy to the buttoned-down aesthetic of the Steelers and a sense of playfulness which is sometimes missing from the organization and from football in general. The zany get-ups were almost subversive in the way they contrasted with the muscular and sometimes staid aesthetic of the city they represent. Commerce now demands a new design to sell still more gear to members of the Pittsburgh diaspora, but this wonderful anomaly shall live on through the #84 Antonio Brown jersey in my closet.
