Preparing for a New Year
School Year 2014 — 2015
I’m in the process of reevaluating what I have students DO in my classroom.
I want the tasks and assessment in my classroom to command student attention, demand high levels of thought and process, and to engage students in evaluating the world.
In order to better structure student tasks and assessments, I plan to work with my wife to adapt the AP United States History curriculum framework to fit my American Studies course.
Challenges
- Incorporate Common Core requirements.
- Create measurable discipline literacy objectives for my Juniors to match the work our department did with Dr. Mike Manderino last year.
- Evaluate the AP curriculum to determine appropriate themes, content objectives, and guiding questions.
- Develop a clear curricular structure that defines objectives and provides a map of must use vs. can use in terms of historical context and content.
- Create assessments to match these objectives.
