Was H.H. Holmes Really the First Serial Killer Ever?

H.H Holmes was executed on May 7, 1896. The list of his crimes earned him the title of history’s first-ever serial killer. Holmes had brutally murdered 27 people. However, some people argue that the list of his victims crossed 200. Most of his victims were first lured into his “murder castle” before being murdered. In Holmes’s words,

“I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than a poet can help the inspiration to sing.”

Holmes continues to inspire several directors and scriptwriters.

Who was H.H Holmes?

Holmes was born in New Hampshire in 1861. From a young age, Holmes found skeletons and death fascinating. His interest led him to pursue medicine as a career. Holmes studied medicine in a small school located in Vermont, and he later joined the University of Michigan Medical School.

During his time at the university, Holmes would often steal cadavers from laboratories. He would perform experiments on the cadavers by disfiguring them. Then he would bury these dead bodies and make it look like they had been in an accident. The theory behind this bizarre practice was…
