Modern Day Love is a JOKE!

With the invention of cell phones, computers, and tablets, society has become adaptive to the normality of technological use. Nowadays, what it means to have technology is to have access to information and power at any time from anywhere. With that, technology undoubtedly plays a vital role in how we -as humans- interpret the world, whether that be physically, emotionally, psychologically, or socially. As a technology-infused society, it is also clear to recognize that technology has grown to influence the romantic lives of individuals as well.

Through well-known and successful apps, such as Tinder, Bumble, Facebook, and Hinge, many individuals find themselves addicted to the feeling of finding everlasting love with just the swipe of their fingertips. This has also brought forth some very serious and dangerous setbacks, with many people playing a role and pretending to be a completely different person behind the screen. In all aspects, however, people still use technology to form new connections; whether it be a good or bad outcome may have nothing to do with you, but instead, the person on the other end of the conversation.

Since social media platforms are so easily accessible, many people use apps such as Tinder, Facebook, or Instagram to build connections online. Because of this, there are positive and negative effects on users. While some people find themselves weary or jealous from social media usage, others may find themselves content and happy with their decision to use social media as a relationship developer. In any instance, technology can bring people close together and form strong relationships. However, if used incorrectly, social media can play a huge toll on one’s self-identity and self-esteem. Altogether, technology can be a beautiful thing; it very well depends on whether the person on the other end of the phone is who they truly say they are.

So the question is: Do you believe that technology helps individuals grow to that more intimate level. Perhaps, instead of believing that you can find love through technology, you simply swipe left.
