Ifedayo Ward, Executive Director of Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative, MANI urged all organisations to step up their mental health approach in the wake of the present COVID-19 pandemic.

She said this yesterday, while discussing ‘Best ways to safeguard your mental health while working from home’ in an Instagram Live session with us, Truppr.

Ifedayo said, “the workplace is usually a place of tension and a lot of anxiety. All organisations should normally have a mental health policy that reduces stress and takes care of its staff mental health.

“But in the wake of the deadly Covid-19 and the anxiety flying around, it is best to have a policy that reduces employees anxiety and stress levels as they adapt to a new reality of working from home.”

She also advised organisations to give employees simple tasks and set up short-term goals. They should also organise fun activities to lighten up the virtual work environment.

Having received a 70% surge in mental health consultation requests from February till now, MANI is presently preaching that everyone and not just organisations has a role in ensuring people have a safe mental health during the pandemic.

She advised that we all check up on friends, help someone with financial burden and direct anyone suffering from mental health problems to MANI and other mental health initiatives.
