Nimber is a new crowd shipping platform in the UK having launched in beta last week after a successful launch in Norway in 2013. The community has reached over 35,000 members and requested over 20,000 items to be delivered.

A few weeks ago I wrote up a post about the most commonly shipped items on Nimber in 2014. As I was doing the research I started seeing some of the more odd or creative or cool (you choose the adjective) items shipped last year. Our team got together and voted on their favourites from the list. Since crowdshipping is still a fairly new concept and I get asked a lot of questions about how people use it, I thought I’d write a post here to give everyone a glimpse as to how varied our solution is for just about anything you can imagine. So, take a look at 10 of the most interesting shipped items from 2014. Without further ado…

10. Turntable

Perhaps, not the oddest item to ship, but one of the trendiest. Without Record Store Day 2015 in the books, which resulted in a 628% increase in vinyl sales for the week, I think it’s high time you get a new deck brought to you by one of our bringers too.

9. Two cute girls

Yep, you heard that right. The actual request said, “Two cute girls need to be in Stavanger on May 2nd ( Landstreff ). Makes a great atmosphere in the car. Please contact us for a joyous ride.” (Translated from Norwegian).

8. Diving equipment

How else does one get their diving gear from one shore to another? You post it on Nimber of course and it only took a matter of hours to have a deal in place.

7. Rooster

Not exactly something the post will pick up, luckily our bringers will. Cock-a-doodle-doo.

6. Film Equipment

Lights! Camera! Nimber! One of our senders was going to do some filming, but didn’t have the space to bring all of their equipment. Fortunately, we have an awesome community of bringers and Bjørn was able to help get that shoot going. Time is money people!

5. Safe

When you rob a bank…. just kidding, but someone really did have a floor safe sent. Those vaults are heavy. Good thing they were able to find a bringer to help.

4. Accordion

Who doesn’t love some good polka music? That’s my mum’s favourite part of every wedding, seriously. But, without an accordion, you’ve got nothing. So, roll out the barrel!

3. Horse

Compact cars need not apply. It really takes some commitment to help someone send their horse. It happened though and Ole helped Sofie get her horse home. In related horse shipments, we’ve also had people send saddles, trailers, and sleighs. So, if you have equestrian needs, we have bringers to help.

2. Anniversary Cake

He finally remembered their anniversary, ordered the cake and all, but forgot to pick it up. Enter Nimber. Not quite what really happened, but bringer Erland did help a lad get his anniversary cake across town.

  1. Chinchilla

I find this odd for a whole host of reasons. First of all, I have never known anyone to own a chinchilla, I actually had to look it up. Secondly, we haven’t only helped ship one chinchilla, but we have had this request an insane six times. SIX!!!! So, if you ever need to ship your chinchilla our Nimber bringers have you covered.
