Here’s great news for residents of Naperville and Aurora. A recent study conducted by Movoto, a popular real estate website, showed that these 2 cities made it to the top 10 list of safest mid-sized cities to live in the United States. The basis of this ranking was the number of crimes (total, property and violent) per year per 100,000 residents. They also determined the likelihood that residents would find themselves victims of these crimes, with each city ranked in relation to the others 1 being the best and 100 being the worst.

In Naperville, the odds of being a crime victim is 1 in 92. For violent crimes this number is 1 in 1,810 and for property crimes, it is 1 in 104. Ranking 4th on the list is not a big surprise for Naperville, where residents have long enjoyed its safe neighborhoods. It previously earned other National Best City Awards - as one of the “Best Cities for Retirees” (2013) and as one of the “Best Places to Live” (2008).

There’s a 1 in 89 overall chance of being a victim of crime in Aurora. The chance is 1 in 104 for property crimes while it is 1 in 623 for violent crimes. Aurora, which ranked 8th on the list, is no stranger to national recognition and awards as well. From 2000 until 2009, U.S. Census Bureau ranked Aurora as 46th fastest growing city with a population of over 100,000. It is also the 2nd largest city in the state of Illinois.
