Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and Diwali

Sony has recently launched its latest flagship smartphone series Xperia Z5 Dual Premium and Z5 Dual in India. The difference between two is that first one comes with 4K display and other don’t.

After miserable performance of Z3 plus in the market due to overheating issues and bad word of mouth Sony needed something out of the box to be in the smartphone race and they come up with Z5 series. We know you will be thinking that where is Z4?? But this is the new fashion these days. Microsoft came up with windows 10 right after 8. May be they all are going to the same Astrologer or Numerologist :).

It really has Premium look

We got this phone right before Diwali, the best time to try the device as you will see lights and crackers every where to capture. Lets review the phone and see how much its justify itself -

  1. Display — Z5 Premium boasts world’s first 4K Ultra HD Triluminos display with 3840*2160 pixels resolution. The bundled 4K video looks really amazing on the phone. It’s a delight to watch movie on this device using Sony premium headphones. It has intelligent features like X-Reality for Mobile and Dynamic Contrast Enhancer which will increase the quality of video while watching to some extent. Though through normal eyes one cannot see much difference between Full HD dispay and 4K display in a small screen unless you are watching 4K content which is rarely available.

2. Processor and Battery — It has 2 GHz MSM8994 Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa Core Processor which is same as Z3 plus, very fast but infamous for its overheating issues. To overcome this Sony used dual heat copper pipes. Though with heavy usage you will feel the heat but not as much as compared to Z3 plus. With gaming you will see almost no lag and good battery performance. It has 3430 mAh battery and sony claims that the phone will last for two days. In our moderate usage the phone lasts more than a day.

3. Built and Design

Is this a phone or a mirror??

The phone has a very premium built which makes it stand apart from the crowd. The moment you will hold it in your hand you will feel that you are holding something expensive. The phone comes with a 5.50-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 2160 pixels by 3840 pixels at a PPI of 806 pixels per inch. It measures 154.40 x 76.00 x 7.80 (height x width x thickness) and weighs 180.00 grams. The body of Z5 premium is made up of Aluminum which is a plus sign as compared to previous version of Z series glass which makes it look premium but slippery at the same time. Z5 is coming in two colors Chrome and Gold and they both look awesome. Where Gold from the back looks rich and attracts very less fingerprints. The Chrome variant of the phone looks even better and innovative. It reflects almost 95% light i.e. a good mirror for use. Though it attracts a lot fingerprint but every positive side has something negative too. If you can clean your backside of the phone often this version is definitely recommended as it looks so awesome.

4. Camera — Z5 consists of the all new 23MP with 2160p@30fps and 0.03 seconds Hybrid Autofocus(means it automatically focus on the right part of the screen in very less time). Sony claims it to be “The worlds best smartphone camera”. It got the highest rating in DXOMARK among other phones. We are not going for scores as for a normal user it doesn’t make much sense. We used this camera for Diwali and we were satisfied with it. The camera is pretty good if not great. It can also record 4K videos which looks awesome on the device. Front camera is 5MP with 1080p@30fps, which is decent to take selfies. The default camera app comes with lots of options to play with e.g. AR Mask which will replace your face with mask etc. Most of the pics here are taken in low light condition to thoroughly test the camera, as in normal light conditions its obvious that pics will come good. 5. Basic features

  • This is a dual sim phone(GSM+LTE). Voice clarity on this phone is impressive.
  • Internal memory is 32 GB and expandable upto 200 GB.
  • It comes with android v5.1(Lollipop).
  • Fingerprint sensor — The sensor is located in the power button itself which is very convenient to use as you don’t have to make those irritating patterns again and again to unlock the phone.
  • Waterproof — It is Waterproof and Dust Tight (IP65 and IP68 certified) but Sony doesn’t provide warranty if water somehow destroys your phone.
  • NFC enabled
  • 3430 mAh Battery

6. Overall verdict — The phone is pretty much impressive with looks as well as performance. The camera performance is pretty good. The price of this phone(60K INR) is in the league of Iphone 6s. So the people who may go for it will also have others top models in mind. Same features of this phone minus 4K is available in Z5 dual which is 10K INR cheaper. So the above review stands for that phone also.

Pros —

a. Stunning looks in Chrome and Gold version. b. Performance (Lag less gaming and smooth apps usage) c. Battery Performance d. Camera performance (but would have been better)

Cons-

a. High Price. It is available for 60K in India. Hence people will think thousand times before purchasing it.

b. Heating issues — With heavy usage the phone gets warmer though bearable till now.

c. Fingerprint Magnet — This issue is with every phone these days which have the gloss finish. (Not a big issue)

d. You have to be very careful as there is always a risk of dropping this phone If you are stuck with multiple options its better you try the products first and then buy which suits you the most and now you can get hands on experience of phone at http://www.trykaro.com. #TryKaro
