Other ways I used ChatGPT for 6 months (at work and home) the right way. Increasing my Productivity 10x

Real productivity with ChatGPT

In most cases, productivity and ChatGPT is an oxymoron in the world today. ChatGPT is super useful when you use it the right way. When I say the right way, I mean using it while maintaining genuineness and preserving your words, while getting assistance in the content execution and delivery style.

You’ve seen it. Teachers warning students across all degrees of education to NOT use ChatGPT to replace your brain. I’m not here to tell you that, I’m here to show you ways you can use ChatGPT for generating ideas or adding that extra “oomph” to your otherwise, boring presentation.

My favorite words are “how to” and “help me”. This let’s ChatGPT assist instead of replicating or creating something that isn’t your own.

“Make a presentation plan for me” — Let’s you generate more planned and engaging content.

When making a presentation for work or my degree program, I found myself needing to condense large amounts of information into a mere-less than 15 minute presentation. What I wanted to accomplish was getting the crucial details across without the content density being overbearing. It specifies my time on each point while covering the main points.

“Make an excel formula that removes the extra characters for me” — Let’s you save time when you’re needing large amounts of text for a report or chart.

As a developer I often have a large amount of text that I need to shorten or extract the names between characters that takes a lot of time to remove. I don’t have a tool to do and I need a report in 15 mins. This is what I do.

“Show me the rules for the game of Hive and what’s not allowed” — This looks up the rules for me without having to sift through a rule book when there’s a winning/losing move in question of a heated game.

My husband I were playing a game of Hive when he suddenly decided to do an illegal move that was not addressed in our rule book. I did a quick “let me ChatGPT that”, and sure enough the dispute was settled with me winning the game. Fun, right?

“Show me how to make a bubble chart with measure values of x and y in Tableau” — Let’s me construct a bubble chart in minutes, the right way.

If you’re in the data driven business like me, Tableau is iconic. And if you’re me, you know Tableau can get quite confusing and messy. Well sure enough, I was able to create beautiful visuals.

“Make me a 30 day meal plan high in protein, low-calorie but perfect for a workout routine to grow more lean muscle” — Helps pick a meal plan based on my preferences but meet’s my workout goals.

It even gives me the serving sizes and I could even add it to an app so I can count my calories.

“Summarize the chart content and findings”- Let’s me paste a chart and grab the highlights and concise bullet points for an email I didn’t get the time to read and my morning meeting in 10 minutes.

“Give me date ideas under $100” — My favorite part is using the context of the latest events happening near you for low-budget date ideas.

Better than TheNudge, I can actually lookup specific date ideas based on how we’re feeling, weather, and season.

“Modify the SQL query and make it more efficient” — If you’re learning to code, don’t make ChatGPT do the work for you, instead make it a teacher to help you become better at it. The goal is to code better, not code at all.

As a developer and analytics nerd, a majority of what I do is technical development and optimization. Now there are some things I go look back in my code that may not be the most efficient. This is where ChatGPT can really teach me ways to become a better developer and use my resources wisely. Ask ChatGPT to explain the benefits of each for your particular project, for example it goes into a component of indexing in SQL and where it might be more beneficial to use, in what circumstances, and why.

Instead of using ChatGPT to write everything for you, I suggest you view it as a way to execute or do something better. AI doesn’t have to make people less useful. The PyCoach is a great source on how to utilize prompts and how to be ahead of 99% of ChatGPT users. Learning to write efficient prompts is key.
