You can’t escape the fact that performing well isn’t the only important thing for an MMO player. Killing in style is what matters most for many players hence the popularity of in-game stores and black markets selling rare and beautiful loot. People, who spend hundreds of dollars for a certain shade of sword, may sound crazy but let’s not judge anyone’s little guilty pleasures as MMOs have also been a bit of a vanity fair. Almost everyone wants to be in the strongest clan on the server, get the most achievements in the shortest time possible, and swing around the biggest and most flamboyant sword around. So enjoy the list that scratches at least one of such itches — the most aesthetically pleasing weapons imaginable with short tips on how to get them.

Star Wars: The Old Republic — Devastator’s Double-Bladed Lightsaber

There’s still a lot of controversy around the prequel movies in the SW fanbase — I won’t stir it up even more. But there was at least one inherently cool and badass thing in the first one and it’s Darth Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber. SW:TOR creators knew this too so they included their own version and enhanced it by putting a glowing crystal in the staff. Now you can travel the galaxy far, far away, distribute death and be posh at the same time.

How do you get it? This one is pretty easy to obtain — it can be found at one of the item packs at the Cartel market. However, note that Cartel coins required for this are mainly provided for subscribers or have to be purchased separately.

World of Warcraft — Draconic Avenger

It’s massive, you can hold two at once, it’s glowing red and got two dragon heads on it — what more can you ask of a weapon? An epic double ax of ultimate destruction and it also looks stunning. Paladins, warriors and death knights can enjoy wielding it and all other classes can only gaze in awe and be jealous much.

How do you get it? It’s a bit tricky with only one monster dropping it but nothing is impossible. You need a place in the Blackwing Lair, where Wyrmguards spawn by three, preferably just before Chromaggus. The trick is in killing two of them and if there’s no Avenger drop out the combat/commit suicide for them to respawn. Be prepared to bring some friends who’ll resurrect you and set aside some gold to repair your equipment. The drop chance is 5.12% so it will take some time but is totally worth it. (Thanks to jaxsonbateman from wowhead for the tip).

Any other candidates? As there are so many great-looking weapons in WOW, here are some runner-ups: Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood, Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle, The Twin Blades of Azzinoth, and Armageddon.

Guild Wars 2 — Nightmare Greatsword

Also known as Fashion Wars (and for a good reason) this MMO has the most stylish gear around. Players spend literally months of their lives to get full skin collections, the dedication level is insane. It would be a crime against fashion not to include it on this list. This particular sword is especially spectacular — consider getting a matching haircut and get ready to flex on everyone around.

How do you get it? The sword is only sold by the vendor near the Twilight Arbor dungeon. Get ready to farm the dungeon for a couple days to get this amazing sword as it can only be exchanged for the currency you get for completing it or from monsters there.

I like my fashion ridiculous. Any options for me? For all avantgarde lovers out there GW2 has a perfectly absurd banana scythe in store. It’s a scythe. With a banana instead of a blade. Dead serious. And yes it’s a Monty Python reference, good catch.

Final Fantasy XIV — Magitek Cannon & Photon Stream

Final Fantasy XIV is a visual gem and it’s not only about the graphics but also lots of love and work put in the overall design to make it unique. Actually, the game has got a whole site dedicated to the different looks players create. What about the beautiful weapons? There are a lot — and Magitek Armor surely stands out.

Magitek or magic technology made an appearance in an offline installment of a legendary JRPG series — Final Fantasy VI. It then reappeared in the FF XIV as a mount equipped with two cosmetic weapons — Magitek Cannon with its explosive projectiles and Photon Stream with a short-range energy burst shot in front of you. Not many MMOs have a real mecha to ride for pleasure and vast damage — and that one can even fly.

How do you get it? Just complete some main quests it’s fairly easy. Magiteknical Difficulties is the one you are looking for.

Black Desert Online — Kzarka blade

This one doesn’t only have cosmetic value but also is one of the most powerful weapons in the whole game so don’t hesitate to obtain it — if your char is high-level enough of course. To make it even better the sword was filled with the evil energy of Evil Lord Kzarka so you can add some sense of urgency to your moves.

How do you get it? Or simply obtain it from an NPC at one of the Black Markets. Looking for a cheaper alternative? Defeat Kzarka himself and get it from his sealed weapon box!

Lineage 2 — Shyeed’s Bow

Swords totally dominate any MMO landscape so when you get to see a beautiful weapon, which isn’t a sword you grab it on sight. This A-grade bow is meant for players level 61 and higher but you will most likely get it in your late 70s so some work should be put in in order to get it. Need to note that it’s really powerful so it would be really worth the effort.

How do you get it? From a number of high-level raid bosses for a group of players so make sure your clan goes to enough raids. The highest chance to drop the bow itself is from killing Antharas, Anakim or Lilith. Dwarves can create the Shyeed’s Bow if their skill level is 8 with a 60% chance.

All you have to do now is to find a matching armor and you are all set for a battlefield catwalk. By the way which MMO weapons do you like? Is it hard to get them? Please share your opinion in the comments below.
