Time: Is it our most precious commodity?
It is rumored that we value time just after health of our loved ones and money. People are in constant search of how to rewind time, reset time and extend the amount of time we have. Time is one of our most precious commodities and we must protect it for it to maintain its value. Here is the problem, no matter what we do, we only have 24 hours in each day so there is no way to add to get additional time but there are ways that we can make the most of what we have to that it appears that we have more of it and it is better quality.
Here are 3 things that will add more time to your day:
- Sleep — So you are for sure asking your self, how in the world does sleep add more time? According the the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; “Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. The way you feel while you’re awake depends in part on what happens while you’re sleeping.” Based on this information it is safe to say that if you get more quality sleep, then the time that you are wake is of higher quality, giving us the ability to do more and enjoy it. The alternative is, lack of sleep which has so many negative impacts on the body, we can end up just wasting the day away.
- Energy — Sleep helps lead to more energy, but energy can also come from others daily rituals such as nutrition, meditation, and how we spend our day. So many people are failing at all of those factors and they are miserable. That feeling will rob them of their precious time and have them just going through the motions. So it is critical to take care of yourself both body, mind, and spirit. Nutrition and exercise can help you feel at the top of your game and get more done in less time with focus. In addition, focus taking care of the body, can slow down the aging process and help you feel younger, which will naturally increase your quality of life and time. Meditation is becoming one of my new favorite things and there are so many benefits to it. On the website, www.artofliving.org some of the Benefits of Meditation are: adds more hours to your day, helps you appreciate life more, and helps you feel more connected to name a few. There are also several health related benefits as well. Use meditation as a way to get started in the morning and hit the reset button during the middle of the day. Lastly, how are you spending your day, do you love what you do, or do you dread it? If you love what you do time tends to “fly” as they say and you enjoy more of it, but if you don’t then each minute and hour not enjoyed tends to add up and help make you miserable.
- Purpose — Spending our day living our our purpose, while be one of the best ways to feel like we have more time. Purpose is different for everyone. It could be with kids, a job, or leading a vision through entrepreneurship. Purpose is not connected to money, it is that feeling of value or worth. Purpose defined by Merriam-Webster is “the aim or goal of a person: what a person is trying to do, become, etc.” If we live a life of purpose, then spend our day in a way that provides value to our life. That value leads to a better quality of life and we feel we are spending more time doing what we love. As the quote goes, “Spend time doing what you love and you never work a day in your life.” Never feeling like you are working, will maximize the time that you have.
Time management tip: If you have a list of things to accomplish, break you day down in a way that will effectively allow you to get things done when you brain is better suited to accomplish certain tasks. The morning is the perfect time to knock out the things that are most important and also be creative. As the day goes on, we can lose our creative juices, and can push off things, and leave us feeling we did not get anything accomplish. If you do what is important first, then you will feel more accomplished each day. The key is to know who you are so you can set up your day to match your creative and productive moments. Set meetings and other things that are not as important, or require creativity, during the remaining time.
Life is precious, so we must protect our time to make the most of it. So get more sleep, increase your energy, and make sure you are spending each day living our your purpose!
