There’s a shortage of software developers. Or so we are told.

At least here, we constantly put out a job listing for all our roles.

We couldn’t even onboard the number of positions we list

At the same time, there is a great number of programmers who are without a position.

What gives?

Demand for excellence

Employers are looking for the best possible programmers whom they can employ. This is a far cry from self-taught or boot camp programmers (although these types of courses have their place).

It does rather seem that this is a reason that many organizations are unwilling to give junior developers a chance. In their mind they’d rather have proven commercial ability rather than an outstanding outsider, it seems.

It also fits into the complete lack of training offered to new hires.
