Regardless of the criticism I’ve read below I believe that even those folks should acknowledge the value of this article for the simple fact that it is highlighting a very important strategy that is regularly used, even by ‘legitimate’ broadcasters like CSPAN and CNN to sway opinions. My experience is that MOST people don’t read further than the headline. After all we live in the most sensory overloaded time in history. My last employer, the AMA, placed large screen monitors in all break rooms and elevator areas and though I watch almost no publicly broadcast TV I cannot escape the headline clips when going to one of these areas. Becoming aware of a strategy like headlining is a highly valuable step toward also understanding the purpose of headlining and realizing that the “headline” is NOT the story. Thank you Aaron!
