I think that names are very important. They can say a lot about who we are. I have a Chinese name, but I usually don’t introduce myself this way. I think I may have been influenced by my grandpa. When he moved to Canada from Denmark, he decided to keep his Danish name instead of changing it to make it easier for Canadians to read or pronounce. I still have to correct people in Canada when they say my name. I don’t mind the confusion though. In a way, I think it kind of forces others to think about the world around them. On the other hand, I do understand why people choose a name that is easier for people to say or recognize in that language or culture. This is why it’s important to let people choose which name they want to be called.
