What is up with “typing less to be more productive” obsession? Does anyone really believe that programmers spends most of their time on writing or reading a code?
What takes more time is the gathering/understanding the requirements, software design and architecture and testing.
Then comes the coding part that is usually the easiest part once you know what needs to be done.
As for Python being more productive than Java. It all depends.
Python might have more syntactical sugar that allows less coding but that can be offset by good libraries available (or developed by you) for Java.
