Toy Maker and Wolf Cub

Once upon a time, in a small village in the middle of a dense forest, there lived a simple and kind old man. The old man’s name was Hans, but the villagers often forgot his name and just called him “Old Man”. The Old Man lived alone in his small house and was famous for his skilful woodcarving skills. He had made all kinds of beautiful and exciting toys to share with the children in the village. Very few of his works can be sold to the villagers because the Old Man’s generosity has spoiled them.

One night, while the Old Man was working in his carpentry shop, he heard a sound of crying from the depths of the forest. Without hesitation, the Old Man left his workshop and ran towards the sound of crying. In his hurry, the Old Man didn’t have time to bring a lantern to light his steps! Luckily the Old Man has good eyesight even in a dark place. After trying to find the source of the sound, he found a Wolf Cub caught in a trap set by the Hunter.

The Old Man felt sorry for the Wolf Cub and quickly freed her from the trap. The Wolf Cub thanked the old man and said she would help him if he needed help.

Several months later, the village was attacked by robbers. Amidst the villagers’ panic, trying to defend themselves with makeshift farming equipment, the Old Man remembered the promise made by the Wolf Cub he had once saved. He ran to the edge of the forest and summoned the Wolf Cub. Before long, the wolf cub appeared, and the Old Man immediately asked her to help fight off the robbers. The Wolf Cub told the Old Man, “Run back to the village. Stand in the middle of the village, then whistle loudly towards the forest.”

After saying that, the Wolf Cub immediately turned back into the forest. The Old Man immediately returned to the village, broke through the chaos between the villagers and the robbers, and made it to the middle of the village. Panting, he rearranged his stance so that he faced the forest. The commotion around him intensified. The Old Man, who was still exhausted from running and breaking through the chaos in the village, knew he didn’t have much time. Gathering his last strength, he tried to whistle loudly as the Wolf Cub had ordered. Yet, exhaustion made his whistling sound weak and muffled by the surrounding commotion. Disappointed and hopeless, the Old Man sat down and stared blankly at the forest.

Nonetheless, a shadow appeared from within the forest before long, steadily approaching the village. Oh, it turned out the Wolf Cub was calling the whole pack to help the Old Man’s village! The wolf pack numbered in the hundreds!

The robbers were soon driven out of the village with the help of the Wolf Cub and her pack. After that incident, the Old Man and Wolf Cub became inseparable friends. Since then, the village has never been attacked by robbers again. The Old Man decided to go on an adventure with the Wolf Boy. They left the forest and the village and visited beautiful places. They live happily and always help each other.

This is the story of the Old Man and the Wolf Cub, of an unexpected friendship and kindness, that is always cherished and remembered.
