According to a study done by Frances Bridges, Forbes contributor it is proven that spending too much time on social media sites can affect human health. The research shows that 40% of the world use social media every day on average for 61 minutes. Social media platforms cause more stress than they do pleasure affecting the stress, mood, anxiety and depression of users. Researchers show that the reason behind all of this may come from the comparison of one another. It is easy for people to compare themselves to those they follow on social media. This can often cause them to fall into depression.

Limiting one’s time on social media can reduce these affects and overall approves human health. Another study showed that limiting one’s time on social media helped with self-esteem and confidence overall. When you don’t have anyone to compare yourself to it is easier to feel confident in your own skin. It is difficult to tell if the content posted on social media is photos hoped or not. It makes users compare themselves to people who may not even actually look like that.

This is a very important lesson to learn. Social media platforms cause mood swings and feelings as if one is not good enough. With so many studies and research proving that too much time on social media is more-bad than it is good it would be beneficial to take this into consideration. The younger generation has a lot more things to deal with than the older and too much social media just makes that worse. It is easy to always believe everything you see on twitter, Instagram, etc. but it is not always true, it is important to not take things personal and if you feel as if social media is causing you to do so, try giving it a break.
