Beginner Yoga — Table Pose
The Table Pose is a very basic pose that is the beginning of many poses.
Why the Table Pose
What the Table Pose (Sanskrit: BHARMANASANA) is meant to do for you.
The Table Pose is a basic position that you will use to begin many positions, but it is also useful on its own. It can help you to realign your spine as well as strengthen it.
Doing the Table Pose
- On your hands and knees, place your hands directly under your shoulders and your knees directly under your hips. If you have pain issues, you might need to widen your stance. Just be sure that you are straight and balanced.
- While looking down between your palms, flatten your back.
- Push down into your palms so that your shoulders move away from your ears.
- Press your tailbone towards one wall while pushing your crown towards the other wall. This is what helps to lengthen your spine.
- Breathe in deeply and hold it for a short while. Exhale and repeat until you are ready for the next exercise.
