Why Do You Care?

You may need to adjust your portraits if you work in Photoshop (or any other graphics program). This particular use of layer adjustments is excellent for helping you see blemishes on your skin much more quickly. You would be amazed at what you don’t see.

More advanced software will have adjustment layers that allow you to make non-destructive adjustments to your photos.

General Instructions for Using the Black and White Filter

  1. To adjust your black and white adjustment layer, you need to be able to change the sliders for all of the colors that make up an image, even if it is black and white. What we are interested in is the red slider.

2. Move the red slider to the right as you see in this screenshot. The amount that you move will differ from photo to photo.
