DNS for Digital Ocean Droplet w/ GoDaddy
Navigating the intricacies of DNS configuration can be daunting, especially when bridging services between Digital Ocean and GoDaddy. In this concise guide, I’ll oversimplify the process and provide you with a clear, step-by-step roadmap to seamlessly set up DNS for your Digital Ocean Droplet using GoDaddy as your domain registrar.
Bonus: DO referral link below
On DO side add a Domain
- Log into your account
- Go to Networking -> Domains -> Add a Domain | in this case we’ll be using berrynews.org
3. How to create a new record
4. You need to set one A record which points towards your droplet’s ip
5. You also need to set 1–2 CNAMEs that are aliases of your domain.
6. If you have subdomains you can also add those as a CNAME
On GoDaddy we have to set the DO NS names (and that’s it)
- Go to your profile
3. Click on DNS
4. You’ll see the Manage DNS button next to your domain name; click on it. Scroll down to the Nameservers section and click on the Change button to add your nameservers. You will need to add the following nameservers:
- ns1.digitalocean.com
- ns2.digitalocean.com
- ns3.digitalocean.com
At the bottom of the screen is a small text-link that states: Enter my own nameservers (advanced). There you want to click.
Add the above Nameservers -> click on the Save button.
And it’s time to wait. It can take up to a day for everything to propagate, but usually less.
IF you’re like me you don’t have patience and you’ll go nuts so here’s a couple of websites where you can check if your changes propagated properly.
