What salary were you looking for? DYOR!!!

When answering this question it’s very important to be tactful, precise and the same time don’t just spit out a random value, you have to accurately evaluate your skills, position and experience .

To begin with, DYOR — if you haven’t checked Glassdoor or LinkedIn salaries before the interview or even starting to look for jobs you are off on the wrong foot and going in totally unprepared, this will lower your chances to get the most of your new job, salary wise and benefits wise.

DYOR — do your own researchThis is a term that is used both in all sorts of investments from stocks, options to even crypto! It’s as simple as that, just take the time to do it!

Q: What is the salary you want?

A: Considering my X years of experience, my diploma in Y, after doing my due diligence and comparing multiple sources to get the current average salary for Q this job role, also taking into consideration my current company compensation package/ pension scheme/ stock options and overall benefits I would feel comfortable with a value between N and M.

End of Interview Question

At the end of an interview when everybody is ready to close the call and wrap things up and they ask if you have any questions for them, what do you answer?

Q: Do you have any questions for us ? [end of interview]

Be prepared! Never say NO!

A:

  1. Can you walk me through a typical day in the life of this role?
  2. Has anything come up to make you think I’m not suitable for the role? [If they say something, address their concerns right there and then!]
  3. Where do you see myself helping if everything goes well and I get accepted for this position?

Quick side note — ALWAYS send a follow-up thank you email after the interview. Simple way to stand-out and reinforce why you’re a great fit for the role. ⁣Not too long, just being appreciative of the opportunity.

If you’re offered a job over the phone, it’s better not to accept immediately.

“That is amazing news, I’m really excited about the opportunity! Could you please send over all the information by e-mail, so I could take the time to review in detail?”

This is to assess all the details of the compensation package and if you’re not happy you can go back to negotiate.

I hope that this article has been a valuable resource for you, and that you have gained some useful insights and strategies that you can use to make the most out of any interview also giving you a boost on a personal level with better interactions and efficient communication.
