The biggest story that I read this week, which isn’t on my beat, but I think is definitely something that struck me, was today’s announcement that certain news publications would not be allowed into the White House press briefing. The New York Times, CNN, and a couple of other publications and websites were barred from entering a non-televised briefing, and I think that it’s definitely going to set some kind of a precedent. Trump has been disavowing the media, especially places like CNN, constantly, so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. It’s really interesting, because it makes journalism seem that much more vital. For all of the talk in school about how journalism is dying, at this point it seems like the only usable weapon against an administration like this.
