My name’s Mitch Gartner, a junior studying mechanical engineering at Temple University. I enjoy sports, hunting, and especially engineering! Throughout my life I have always been good at math so when it came to choosing a career, I thought engineering might be a good choice. Also, my parents were a huge influence as well. When deciding what to major in, I was very overwhelmed because there were so many options. My parents began narrowing it down for me by telling me I couldn’t major in anything that ended in “ology”. Also, they researched which jobs are highly needed and would be easy for me to get a job in the future. Then, when I looked at the highest paying college majors and saw engineering was 8 out of the top 10, I became very interested. Many of my family members have been (or still are) auto mechanics so since a young age, I’ve been interested in automobiles. I was lucky to have family members that spent many years working in the automobile business because over my lifetime, they have taught me a lot that you wouldn’t learn in school. This is another reason why engineering was my main choice for a major because there are many fields in which you are able to work with automobiles. Overall, engineering has been tough so far but I still enjoy the concepts of creating and designing and would one day like to be an auto designer.
