Funny, part of the reason I’m against gun control at the moment is my lack of confidence there will be a government to rebel against in the coming years. If you dig deeper into the financial numbers and look at the continued unrest, racial and otherwise, I think it’s a valid concern. And they’re building up “militaries” in many civilian departments for some reason. You wouldn’t believe the departments that effectively have a private army. They’re scared of something.
And a thread I read on here recently made me want to hug my M4. I don’t have any illusions about overthrowing the government, but I do have fears about what would happen if it’s not there. I haven’t trained for it and would be scared shitless, but that’s called having your back against the wall at that point.
I don’t get into debates about gun control because I don’t have much ground to give. I agree with universal background checks but disagree with bans. The experience of a friend recently, though, who is currently suing the government over their not processing background check appeals brought to light how the NRA is working. They didn’t care to assist in his issue because they’ve been working to defund the background check system to be able to say it doesn’t work. They even push to defund the record handling at the state level. They’re causing it not to work.
A number of gun groups are forming because they feel as though the NRA has lost its way.
I will admit to having recently given thought to the idea that our militarization is fueling the militarization of the cops, but I’m just starting down that road of thought. I’ve read there is quite a history of racism in gun control, but I haven’t read enough yet to comment.
