Yeah, don’t write in your native language first, that creates a lot of extra work and somehow it “sounds” off when you translate your work.

I took advanced English classes in high school already and lived in the UK for a while so that helped ;-).

Other than that it’s practice, practice, practice. That’s why you should stick to writing in English instead of your native language. Only by writing you will become better. Read good books in English. Follow language courses or read books like The Elements of Style. Study the language and practice a lot 😃.
