I think it may have to do with how we communicate now. In an era where the majority of debate has to exist in 140 character spaces, there’s no room for dialectics anymore. People adapted more and more to less-nuanced discussion, and it eventually became the only way most know how to approach any topic. You have to be categorically opposed or supportive of the movement, else your one caveat to that support or opposition is what detractors latch on and then drag you through the mud for.
