Online Tutoring is just like In-Person & more…
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” — William Arthur Ward
In person tutoring is ideal. This 1-to-1 dynamic is most conducive to building the bonds necessary for learning. Looking over a student while she solves a SAT math problem allows you the opportunity to course correct her. This is invaluable for your student. Yet, meeting in physical locations presents challenges: no one likes being in traffic, gas is expensive and we lack time.
Fortunately, with today’s technology, one can reap in-person tutoring benefits with that of online tutoring. Online tutors can still look over their student’s shoulder in real time and offer pointed instruction just like in person tutoring.

Just like in-person tutoring, the student can walk through how she approached the problem for her tutor in real-time. The tutor can immediately course correct the student and demonstrate the right approach. This significantly aids the learning process.
Today, most students have smartphones with incredible photo capabilities. Students can simply take a picture of their homework, exam or notes and upload them onto an online collaborative whiteboard for their tutor. Here’s a screenshot of this in action:
Lastly, other resources such as video can be ported into your online tutoring lesson with screen sharing:
The benefits of supplementing your in-person tutoring with online capabilities are numerous. To name a few, students & parents benefit from:
- No travel
- Saves time and money
- Increase lesson efficacy & accountability with online tutoring lessons recordings for review at a later time. Parents can also view these recordings to ensure student progress.
