When I first learned about the data-driven word processor Shaxpir, my first thought was, “Ew.” Why would I let a computer analyze my writing? Is nothing sacred in our AI-hungry world?

But the man selling the product at the writers’ conference was disarmingly nice, so I let him show me around. The software is simple on its face. You can organize multiple documents in a book-length project, much like the popular Scrivener. But, this program has a secret weapon: linguistic tools.
