The City

San Francisco has a reputation of being smug and pretentious. Maybe rightfully so.

Then again I remember sitting in Golden Gate Park, a marvel unto itself. I was there with my friends on a blanket drinking and eating at a free music festival. Surrounded by a couple thousand of my neighbors while being serenaded by one of the greatest musicians of all time, Ryan Adams. My friend said something interesting to me. He said “Tom, you know how we’re thought of as pretentious here, well maybe its because life is genuinely better here”. I looked out and thought a minute. Ryan Adams hardly ever comes to my home state for a regular concert let alone a FREE one. No city in my home state has a park as nice as Golden Gate Park. The list kept piling up.

Maybe we’re pretentious, or maybe life is genuinely better here.
