What is one non-negotiable rule that all kids must follow in your class?

Okay…two non-negotiable rules…

The first day of school always seems to be the same with every teacher, in every school, in every grade, and in every classroom.

The students come in and find their new seats, they put away their backpacks and meet other students that are new to them, or catch up with students whom they know. Then comes the “meet and greet” part of the morning. This is the part of the morning where the teacher does some type of ice-breaker activity and forces the students to make up their own set of class rules which they are to follow, or follow some generic version of the teacher’s classroom rules.

I, however, have come up with two rules that I will fully enforce for my future kids to follow in my classroom. I feel as though the rest of the “classic rules” that most student’s have to follow in their classrooms can stem from these two rules that I will be enforcing.

First of all, I want for my students to love and respect themselves. If students find a way to love and respect themselves from Day 1, I feel as though students will be able to respect others surrounding them.

I feel as though a lot of the problems that come up with kids in schools have to do with student’s who are insecure with themselves. Teaching children to love themselves and concentrate on pursuing their positives will help for students to be confident in themselves. I think that the rest of the “classic classroom rules” will fall into place if the student’s learn this rule.

The second rule that I will enforce is for student’s to always be passionate and creative when it comes to their learning. I feel as though forcing a student to learn a subject a certain way hinders their ability to learn said subject. By having students become passionate about learning, I believe that it will create a positive environment for student’s and their learning.
