Who are you?

Kids will be who you are, not who you want them to be.

“Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the two first loves together.” — Scott Hayden

This quote is a perfect example of who I am.

I have always been told that if a teacher is enthusiastic about learning and shows a passion about every subject that is taught, the students will become as passionate as the teacher about learning something new. I have seen this first hand through working in my school system. Science is my least favorite subject, but I have found the inspiration to become passionate about science by seeing how excited the students are about learning science. When I am more excited about what is being taught, the students become excited. Their excitement fuels my drive to want to be enthusiastic and to want to find out more about the subject being taught.

Not only do I want to transfer my enthusiasm and excitement to my students, but also how to learn creatively. I love to learn new things in different ways, and I am very hands on when it comes to learning. I feel as though learning through a hands on approach is great for students. Showing excitement of learning through creativity can only help students.

I also am trying to become a person who is not afraid of failure. As stated before, kids will be who you are, not what you want them to be. If I am not afraid of trying something new and failing at it, then my future kids and students will not be either. How do we learn? We learn through failure. If I am not afraid of failure then my students won’t be.

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” -Albert Einstein
