A Windsor Boys’ summer No.1: Charity cycle

My name is Ricky Harvie — alumni of The Windsor Boys’ School. I’m 19 years old and currently on a gap year before heading to University in September. I really wanted to have a great blow out for me and my friends but thought a big night out wouldn't be special enough, so I attempted to try and think outside the box. Then, after much discussion with family and friends, we decided we’d make an attempt at cycling from London to Paris to help raise awareness and money for our various charities. We have studied the route hard and after a lot of help from people via the internet, bouncing emails around, and speaking to people in-the-know, we are going to attempt the mammoth journey in just three days, covering a distance of over 250 miles. I have chosen Thames Hospice as my charity because they’re very close to my family’s heart. They helped us greatly by providing my Nan with incredible care and attention. Seeing as they’re all volunteers, this makes it all the more special and the service they offer is second to none.

In case you are not already aware of the work they do, Thames Hospice is based in Windsor, where they provide care to those with terminal illness. They are able to provide the care 24/7 whether that be at home or at the Community Therapy Unit, where every attempt is made to make sure they’re patient is happy and comfortable.

We will be starting the journey from London on September 8th. If you wish to follow our progress then follow me on Twitter @Ricky_Harvie1 and Facebook where I will keep a diary of our trip.

Myself and the charity will be very grateful for any money that is donated however big or small as it will improve the life of those who deserve it most.

Thank you!
