It’s been a while since my last post on travelling in India, so may I present you with yet another ramble from the chronicles of Tak’s travelling journey!
Being a medical student in Nottingham has its perks, such as a an extra BMedSci degree and minus six weeks summer holidays in third year. To make the most of my last ‘official’ summer holidays, of course I wanted to travel! The world is so big and I have only just started scratching the surface. Sadly, due to an array of reasons (in hindsight now seem insignificant), I could only limit my trip to a short 10 days, so goodbye China- someday I will visit you properly.
Before I started doing any research on this travelling business, I knew that deep down in my soul I was yearning to couchsurf. Couchsurfing is a familiar term in a society where its concept is very unfamiliar. and often misunderstood. Tak being Tak, I just had to do it; for the shits and gigs, for the experience.
Walsch once said ‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone’.
There I was, once again ready to throw myself out into the world.
I picked the destination based on the abundance of sunshine, not overly touristy and a relatively cheap air ticket to get me there. With that in mind, Croatia was short-listed. However, from my previous experience, I learnt that a return ticket to and from the same place is no good (for me) if I were to travel intra- and inter-countries. Luckily, RyanAir flies to Trieste, Italy, a small coastal town bordering Slovenia and Croatia; and there I was, sitting in front of a computer, booking away…

Not having a return ticket ACTUALLY allowed me to consider all my options. 2 months after booking my departure flight, 10 days before I depart for Trieste, I finally booked a return ticket from Zadar back to London Stanstead. My heart was aching when I booked that return flight, knowing that I couldn't visit its neighbours the Bos and the Serbs, Montenegro or Albania this time round. Perhaps I will return someday…
