Twelve has appointed David Frank, former leader of global supply chain at Cummins and an electrolyzer pioneer, as the company’s first Chief Productization Officer.

BERKELEY, CA — April 25, 2022 — Carbon transformation company Twelve announced today the appointment of David Frank, former leader of global supply chain at Cummins and a pioneer at the forefront of electrolyzer commercialization, as the company’s first Chief Productization Officer. Frank will lead the company’s efforts bringing its technology to market and establishing facilities and supply chains for mass production of the company’s carbon transformation systems.

Over his 25-year experience in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry, Frank oversaw the growth of a startup delivering novel polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) technology into the world’s largest PEM electrolyzer manufacturer. In Frank’s most recent role as Director of Global Supply Chain for Cummins, he led the deployment of Supply Chains for over 200 MW of Fuel Cell Systems and 1 GW of Electrolysers. Frank spent a majority of his career with Hydrogenics, a fuel cell and hydrogen production technologies startup acquired by Cummins in 2019, where he directed a team that ultimately brought down the costs of its fuel cell and electrolyser products by 97%. During his time with Hydrogenics, Frank implemented their large-scale production processes and successfully fulfilled high-volume fuel cell orders while simultaneously fulfilling the world’s largest PEM electrolyser order of 20 MW. Frank holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Toronto.

“I’m thrilled to bring my deep experience in electrolyzer commercialization to Twelve at a pivotal time for the company,” said Frank. “Having led product development and commercialization for what is now the world’s largest PEM manufacturer, I see an even greater opportunity for Twelve, which offers a unique solution for addressing emissions in countless industries. I’m looking forward to working with the co-founders and the talented technical team to bring their technology to market in new ways and scale production to meet customer needs.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome David to this key role of Twelve’s first Chief Productization Officer as we approach industrial scale,” said Twelve co-founder and CEO Nicholas Flanders. “As a visionary and accomplished leader in electrolysis with expertise in productization and development of electrolyzer manufacturing processes, David’s guidance and insight will be an enormous asset to Twelve’s growth at this critical stage.”
