A different kind of news.

Anybody who knows me really well can testify that I love reading the news. I love knowing what is happening anywhere and everywhere across the globe.
I think it’s a sort of super power (a very cool one) to be in a place and have an idea of what is happening in some other place. It’s one of the perks of being alive in this very moment.
While I still remain a news junkie, following major events around the world these days is quite depressing. It doesn’t help me feel better to know that across the world, lots of people are struggling to find a meaning to their existence due to a variety of reasons.
Instead, I find myself drawn to a different kind of news lately. I have increasingly sought out stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. I’ve found solace and happiness in stories of people who have survived life threatening sickness, turned a precarious financial situation around and even found love again.
This has helped me understand that in our everyday lives, we are also living our own stories. Trying to get a better job, getting ideas to work, setting up a business, starting a family, ending a relationship, battling health challenges, caring for a sick family member are some of the stories people close to me are living through everyday.
Getting to understand this has brought a new lesson. The need to be kind to myself and to the people around me. Realising that we all could do with a listening ear and an open heart. It is my hope that we all get through these things and someday, our stories give hope to someone somewhere in the world.
