At a startup, the opposite is always the case because you often don’t have the luxury to cherry pick the absolute best and brightest especially if you have nothing to offer them besides useless perks like worthless stock options or the ability to work in an environment where you may have to worry that the company will be around the next day or that they can make payroll.
