The Future of PlayStation Part II

On Sunday, July 30th, 2023 I released an article called The Future of PlayStation. Due to the awesome response, I decided to continue. I hope you enjoy.

The PlayStation brand has had a few interesting years. With the ramp up from all companies trying to acquire one another to placing a massive bet on streaming, I’m going to break down where the future may take us.

Acquisition Wars

Sony Interactive Entertainment has been on an acquiring spree. From Haven Interactive Studios to Insomniac Games to even Bungie, things are heating up. With the nearly $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft for their Xbox division, Take-Two Interactive’s $12.7 billion acquisition of Zynga, and several other massive spending sprees, it unfortunately does not look good for freedom in this industry. While this is a topic for another time as we’re mainly taking a deep look into PlayStation, let’s see who is the most likely candidates to join Sony.

  • Square Enix — This one is a little more on the nose and obvious as reports have come in left and right and Square sold their North American and European studios to be acquired by Sony as they did not want all those teams and just the Japanese ones.
