Semantic analysis as in this article is a recognized communication science technique even though it is not “exact”. Whether the conclusions apply to the presidential candidates’ natures, their sponsors’ interests, their editorial teams writing skills, or more likely a mix of these, can’t be confirmed. The only solid gap in evidence is that the study was carried out over a single document instead of a sample of multiple speeches for both candidates. Interesting article but to keep in mind that it analysed one occurence of, but not the entire rhetoric of the presidential candidates.
