The article, “The case for having a ‘finsta’ as an adult,” from Mashable’s Chloe Bryan describes reasons why adults should jump on the bandwagon of having a finsta. Most teenagers will be familiar with the social media account called, “finstas,” which is a secondary private account through Instagram. With these account users are able to post pictures that would not be “acceptable” for their main account. Finsta users create their profile to be impossible to figure out who the account belongs to and only let their best friends follow it. The reasons adults can benefit from it too is the decreased anxiety that comes along with an Instagram account. Instagram has a set of standards users follow: images must fit an aesthetic standard, constant urge to raise followers, and you should not post too often. On your finsta all “rules” of Instagram are disregarded immediately, allowing you to post as many selfies, memes, screenshots from your crush, any food you are stuffing your face with, etc. The freedom continues, users can be as picky as desired when determining their followers. When people ask me what a finsta is, I usually can never explain it, but this Mashable article defined it in the best way possible. I have both a finsta and real insta profile and use my fake account a lot more. I believe that adults have had negative viewpoints of finsta because most assume kids are posting scandalous, intoxicated, or inappropriate images. I think finstas should not be limited to the teenage audience and that adults should be more open-minded to the accounts. When talking specifically about how finstas can affect the company, it does not in the way Instagram makes money but does affect the spread of popularity of the app.
