The mid to late 60s, a time period marked by experimentation, hallucinations and a journey into the musical subconscious mind of millions of people around the world. There were many artists that both made a name for themselves and influenced generations to come, with a sound that was driven by pure rock’n roll.

This genre was defined by a few instruments played in simple ways, but when acting as a unit creates goosebumps up the spines of the youthful audience — often the main crowd.

The drums were simple yet solid — barely heard but felt in the background — holding the British sexual ooze together.

Oh Behave…

The singer, often projecting their voices in soft undertones, with a hint of mystery to keep the listener guessing.

The bassist’s groove thumping along, creating melodies of their own, jagged yet fitting like a key, in the barren spaces of a dungeon.

And the guitar — the glorious instrument of the time, shining like a light at the end of a tunnel, guiding you one note at a time, leading you down a familiar road of blues and folk roots. Then suddenly taking sharp turns down unfamiliar passages, steering through the majestic waves of Herman Melville— returning to familiarity…only part of the time.

The Bands that were the definition of this sound were the Who and the Yardbirds.

The Yardbirds — the lineup including both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page

Both of these bands had a bumping beat that is synonymous with sound. Take a look at this clip this the embodiment of this below:

The Yardbirds — Heart Full of Soul

It was a quick sound that boomed and disappeared just as fast as it came around, like most musical trends.

The band MGMT, might be one of the few bands in recent memory that carries the torch of.

It was a creative exploration that came and went but still felt around the world in the hearts and minds of rock enthusiasts.
